Hot Switch sales boost Nintendo sales, trim quarterly loss

Nintendo says that it expects to sell an additional 10 million Switch consoles in fiscal 2017.

The sample is fairly small when held up against PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, both of which launched in November 2013.

I don't know about you, but considering how bumpy the launch was and the mixed opinions before the launch, the Switch has been performing pretty brilliantly, especially considering the minimal triple-A titles available on the console.

Looking at all three consoles' first-month performances, Switch looks like it falls in the middle. The future of the platform will likely rest on how well it does this year, without a major Pokemon game to boost it so significantly.

The majority of what we've been hearing from devs so far is that Nintendo has been very supportive of these smaller games on Switch, and it has made not just the development process, but even the publishing process a whole lot easier than it was in the past on Wii U and 3DS.

US FCC chairman to announce plans to repeal net neutrality
Even before he was appointed by Trump, Pai was seen as a crusader against the net neutrality rules. At the time, Pai also hinted that the FCC would look into raising the media ownership limit.

That won't be a forever situation.

The hype around the Nintendo Switch was enormous. "If our analysis is correct, software profit contributions should exceed the profit effects of increased hardware shipments, which we think is insufficiently priced into the stock". Since its launch, the Switch has shipped 2.74 million units worldwide, along with shipping 5.46 million games. The Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, has sold 2.74 million units already, which Nintendo states is "a promising start". What about the new Zelda? It's natural that the company wants to give its new system a solid foundation, but being restrictive is not the way to go about that.

On top of that, Sales of Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped out quite a bit, with 2.76 million Switch copies being sold and 1.08 million Wii U copies sold. "Not only is it a fantastic game, but it's one that directly appeals to Nintendo's loyalest fans", reports Business Insider. The schedule laid out in the earnings report points to a few possibilities.

Next up, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which launches for the Switch on Friday, April 28. When the Wii U version is included, that number reaches 3.84 million.

"We will release Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia overseas in May (April in Japan) and plan to release Ever Oasis and Hey!"

Asia stocks rise, euro steady as relief from French vote buoys sentiment
The French economy has made a slow recovery from the 2008 financial crisis and all the candidates said deep changes were needed. These results practically guarantee his being elected as the country's new President in the second round in two weeks time.

By the end of 2012, the Wii U had achieved 3 million sales in six weeks.

Will history repeat for Splatoon 2?

There's also Nintendo's smartphone initiative, whose current titles Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes have brought in revenue of 24.3 billion yen. According to developers, the stated policy is against ports of existing games - and this despite the high-profile presence of Binding of Isaac, Stardew Valley, and Shovel Knight among their listed titles. Not with the big, flagship Mario game scheduled for release during 2017's holiday season.

The Japanese firm entered the mobile gaming market previous year to the relief of shareholders fretting about diving console sales. That's not a small cost as unlike Xbox One and PS4 where there are cheaper models and even refurbished controllers on the market for around $35, a Switch controller costs at least $79.99.

Pats still planning to keep Garoppolo
Edge rusher, linebacker and cornerback depth all seem like legitimate needs for the Patriots as they enter the 2017 season. However, the Patriots have their own issues at quarterback. "He might play five more years, but that would be remarkable".
