Israel to reduce power supply to Gaza

UN condemns Hamas for tunnel under schools in Gaza

"The decision of the occupation to reduce electricity to Gaza at the request of PA President Mahmoud Abbas is catastrophic and risky", Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou said in an official statement.

In April, Egypt offered to resume power supplies to the Gaza Strip if Hamas met certain security demands, the London-based Ashraq al-Awsat newspaper reported.

Gaza's militant Hamas rulers are warning of renewed violence if Israel acquiesces to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' wishes and reduces electricity to the isolated territory.

Spokesperson for the ICRC in Gaza, Suhair Zakkout, said in a statement that the ICRC had made efforts since 2014 to try and find the location of the missing Palestinians; however, the organization has not received any responses from Israel. However, PA spokesman Tareq Rashmawi coupled that explanation with a demand Hamas agree to unity initiatives of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, which include holding the first parliamentary and presidential elections in more than a decade. Every month, Israel would dock money from that transfer to cover the cost of electricity supply in Gaza. The decision is expected to shorten the daily average of four hours of power Gaza's two million residents receive by 45 minutes, Israel's security cabinet said.

Khango Konyak to take over as new Chairman of NSCN-K
There was no immediate reaction from the rebel group or key tribal bodies including Naga Hoho and Naga Mothers' Association. The NSCN came into existence after the Shillong accord was signed in 1975, accepting the supremecy of Indian Constitution.

The paper notes that "Hamas under Iranian direction has allocated millions of dollars from Saudi Arabia and the emirates to the support of terrorism". Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008.

In recent weeks there have been violent skirmishes on the Israel-Gaza border with Palestinian demonstrators shot and killed when previously Hamas prevented the demonstrators from getting near the border.

It was likely that Hamas would "lean towards political accommodation and reach a compromise deal with Abbas and Fatah that will allow the return of PA power in Gaza again", the Al Jazeera piece said.

Netanyahu's remarks came two days after the UNRWA said it had uncovered an alleged Hamas-built tunnel running under two agency-managed schools in a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.

Trump commits to NATO mutual defense after hesitating
He added: "Oh you're going to be very disappointed when you hear the answer, don't worry". Asked if he would speak to the issue under oath, Trump said: "100 percent".

"This Israeli decision is unsafe and catastrophic", said Hamas spokesman Abdulatif al-Qanou.

But Israel is deluding itself if it believes it can shun responsibility for what happens in Gaza.

The MP warned that the situation is taking a turn for the worse due to Israel's decision to curtail power supplies to the besieged coastal enclave. Though Israeli politicians have argued for changing policy toward UNRWA, Netanyahu appears to have finally done so.

Restrictions of movements in and out of the Gaza Strip have been slightly tighter as tensions have grown between Hamas and both Israel and Egypt: movement across all crossings has seen a decline throughout 2017, with levels also lower than the monthly averages of 2014 (Al Jazeera 07/05/2017 & Gisha 17/05/2017, OCHA 15/05/2017).
