Artemis Racing reaches America's Cup challenger finals

Artemis Racing skipper Nathan Outteridge plunged overboard during an America's Cup challenger final race on Saturday, allowing Emirates Team New Zealand to get ahead and go 2-1 up in the first-to-five contest.

Artemis had been down 3-1 before winning three races Thursday to reach match point.

The victor will challenge holders Oracle Team USA for the oldest trophy in global sport in the Louis Vuitton America's Cup Match starting on June 17.

New Zealand won the first race of the day despite a poor start, piling the pressure on the British team who struggled to match their opponents for speed and stability.

The result takes Team New Zealand one step closer to a Cup Match with Team USA, with a flawless showing on Sunday enough to send them through.

The Kiwi helmsman claimed a 2-1 lead in the Challengers Series finals after Artemis lost their skipper to Bermuda's Great Sound.

"It's been a very up and down road for us, but it's nice to be hitting a bit of form now", Outteridge said.

But he empathised with his Australian counterpart, having tumbled from the boat himself while Team New Zealand were preparing in Auckland.
