Jerry West leaving Warriors to join Clippers

Draymond Green Wins Petty Championship With “Quickie” T-Shirt Mocking Cavs [VIDEO]

Fresh off the team's second National Basketball Association title in two seasons, Golden State special consultant and former National Basketball Association star Jerry West is leaving the Warriors to try and have the same effect on the Los Angeles Clippers.

Before agreeing to join the Clippers, West had reportedly considered the possibility of returning to the Lakers in an advisory role after Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka took over the reins of the Purple & Gold. As a player, West won the 1972 championship, was named the only Finals MVP on a losing team in league history, and had 14 all-star appearances. Several years later, West's trade for Kobe Bryant and signing of Shaquille O'Neal in free agency laid the groundwork for a Lakers squad that won three straight championships between 2000 and 2002, and he was twice named National Basketball Association executive of the year. West has been involved with the Warriors since 2011.

Sports Illustrated first reported that West was leaving the Warriors to join the Clippers. West's role is supposedly not changing, and it'll just be moving from one California team to another that's the biggest switch in all of this madness.

West later spent a five-year stint as general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies, credited with a turnaround in that team's performance. I don't feel old, I feel really competitive.

"I knew I was going to be leaving, I didn't know what I was going to be leaving to", West told ESPN. That might be the reason for his departure from the Warriors as he feels that he has been defiant his whole life. This offseason, the Clippers will be attempting to keep both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, who are free agents.

According to multiple sources, the Clippers and the city of Inglewood are closing in on entering an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) on 22 acres of land owned by the city between Prairie and Yukon Avenues south of Century Boulevard.
