Turkey continues to distribute aid to Rohingya Muslims

UNITED Nations Secretary-General António Guterres today reiterated his call for Muslims from Myanmar's Rakhine state to be granted nationality or at least a legal status that would allow them to lead a normal life, while also urging the global community to help provide assistance for the almost 380,000 people who have fled into Bangladesh.

Myanmar's top Catholic leader is adding pressure to the country's defacto leader, telling Aung San Suu Kyi she "should have spoken out".

About 400,000 Rohingya, an ethnic and religious minority group long denied citizenship in Myanmar, have crossed the border into Bangladesh since a violent crackdown by government forces, described by some as ethnic cleansing, began on August 25. It has been characterised by many as ethnic cleansing.

"This is the first time in nine years that the Security Council has agreed on this particular issue, on Myanmar", British Ambassador to the UN Matthew Rycroft told reporters at the UN headquarters in NY.

Oil nears $49 as brighter demand outlook sparks optimism
Meanwhile, the Energy Information Administration will report weekly US crude stockpile and production data at 10:30 a.m. "Irma will have a negative impact on oil demand but not on oil production or processing".

While the Trump administration has been less active on Myanmar than the Obama administration, the current wave of global condemnation has begun to galvanize a response in Washington, where Suu Kyi has always been idolized for her peaceful struggle for democracy. I am still waiting for my fellow Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to do the same.

Last week there were 125,000 Rohingya refugees who had fled to Bangladesh and "the number has now tripled to almost 380,000", he said. ARSA says it is fighting to protect Rohingya Muslims from persecution in Buddhist-majority Myanmar. "We demand that the Myanmar government immediately intervene and take responsibility for the widespread atrocities that have displaced thousands of Rohingya Muslims". According to Bangladesh, around 3,000 Rohingya have been killed in the crackdown.

"The evidence is irrefutable - the Myanmar security forces are setting northern Rakhine State ablaze in a targeted campaign to push the Rohingya people out of Myanmar".

"All 7,000 Rohingya have nothing to do with terrorism", the community, represented by counsel Colin Gonsalves, said. The military retaliated with a violent operation that is "clearly disproportionate and without regard for basic principles of worldwide law", Hussein said.

"One wasn't moving, the other was breathing and had water in its eyes", Sechler said in a Facebook post . Marcelo Clavijo was also part of the group of people who helped save the manatees.

"We have made purchases for a week and we are planning to continue the relief effort for a longer time", Amarpreet said.

Amarpreet Singh, the managing director of the Indian wing of the charity organisation, said: "These people are arriving in a desperate state".

On Monday, Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commisioner for Human Rights, said in a statement: "Because Myanmar has refused access to human rights investigators the current situation can not yet be fully assessed ... but the situation seems a textbook example of ethnic cleansing".
